The Roman company, active in the design and realization of scientific workspaces since 1983, aims to create a virtuous and sustainable circular economy model
Today, more than ever, processes of digital innovation and sustainability have become fundamental for the industrial and social development of Italy. In Labozeta, the move towards a green economy on an increasingly human scale, with a view to ensuring safety and sustainable development, has already become a reality. This move is now considered necessary in order to generate an important new socio-economic paradigm, powered by technological evolution, the purpose of which is to reduce CO2 emissions. This is a necessary and conscious process, involving empowerment strategies that can benefit the whole community.
As Andrea De Matthaeis, the CEO of Labozeta SpA, declares: “with the introduction of new IT systems, such as the integrated management model, which has positively re-elaborated the concept of time and space as regards all business and document digitization processes, we are now able to accelerate and monitor our project operations, limiting or eliminating wastage and environmental impact. We have definitively eliminated the use of paper and the sending of printed documents, thereby saving time and energy, compared to the practices of the past. Furthermore, thanks to the use of eco-compatible and recyclable materials, we have introduced a new living philosophy of existence to the company, which we intend to maintain and improve in the future”.

The offices of Labozeta have also undergone a substantial overhaul, including a new thermal coating on all of the building’s outer walls, and the complete insulation of the doors and windows. In addition to this, new technologies have made it possible to realize a new system to enhance energy efficiency. Thanks to an absorption chiller powered by solar energy and the installation of solar panels of the latest generation, manufactured by our Italian partner AzzeroCO2, we have in fact been able to radically reduce CO2 emissions.
Sandro Scollato, the CEO of AzzeroCO2 points out that “to build a future in which climate neutrality can be achieved, it is essential to reduce heat and electricity consumption and to multiply renewables. Here in AzzeroCO2 we have been working for almost twenty years alongside companies and public bodies on the design and construction of plants and systems with renewable sources and on ensuring their energy efficiency. The intervention that we have carried out for Labozeta Spa is an excellent example of how companies can be at the forefront of progress, by adopting circular economy models and solutions, and by taking fundamental steps towards the necessary energy transition that helps companies to reduce their energy dependence, also with a view to improving cost efficiency”.
Also the new fully electric car fleet adopted by Labozeta and powered at the innovative Prism Solar charging points made by the Venetian company Silla Industries is completely in line with the route taken by Labozeta that leads towards greater environmental sustainability. All of these environmental choices and decisions have already brought about some concrete results and they are, in fact, equivalent to having lowered the emission of greenhouse gases, which would otherwise have amounted to 11.22 tons of CO2 in a year.

These excellent outcomes have certainly benefited the environment, and soon they will be improved even further, since we intend to increase the photovoltaic capacity of our main office building to a 30kW solar power system by July 2022.
“Those who will benefit the most from this paradigm shift – states De Matthaeis – will mainly be our customers and clients in their interactions with new digital platforms, which offer fast and intuitive technical assistance via the new website. This now provides our clientele with a specially designed area for quickly resolving any kind of problem, whether ordinary or extraordinary, as well as providing online environmental monitoring of their laboratory spaces”.
With the assistance and the integration of enabling technologies, in the form of the sensors that are increasingly present in Labozeta‘s laboratory systems, safety has been increased thanks to real-time environmental control, with a view to implementing the principles of Transition 4.0. “Our web platform has been designed to have a proactive approach – says De Matthaeis – by monitoring the environmental conditions and processes of the laboratory in real time and by facilitating immediate contact so as to provide technical assistance”.
The products of Labozeta are completely made of recyclable steel and are therefore compatible with Minimum Environmental Criteria (MEC). They are all equipped with identifying QR Codes or contact smart cards that make it possible to track in real time the performance of equipment, such as fume hoods, laminar flow cabinets and isolators, and to store the relative data. De Matthaeis points out that “In the near future, virtual and augmented reality will be an integral part of progress towards developing new processes and offering added value to our customers. In our own small way, we are proud to have concretely implemented a holistic vision of an economic development model that takes environmental impact and the sustainability of resources into due consideration. This is an obligatory process that can no longer be avoided or ignored”.
